Understanding the Skin Barrier
What the moisture barrier is, why it matters and how to support it with everyday skincare.

The skin's outermost layer works like a well-built wall: cells act as bricks, and lipids such as ceramides act as mortar. When that mortar is intact, moisture stays in and everyday irritants stay out.
Over-cleansing, harsh weather and dryness can leave the barrier feeling compromised. The signs are familiar — tightness, dullness and a texture that never quite feels smooth.
Supporting the barrier is mostly about consistency: a gentle cleanser, a hydrating step, and a moisturizer with skin-identical lipids used morning and evening.
